Maersk takes delivery of new “K-Type” ship
A.P. Moller Singapore on Tuesday received the first in a series of 10 6,200-TEU “K-Type” vessels ordered from South Korean shipyard Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co.
The “Maersk Kowloon” is about 300 meters long (984 feet) with a beam of 40 meters (131 feet) and a full load draft of 14.5 meters (47.6 feet). The vessel is fitted with a W'rtsil' 10RT FLEX96C engine enabling speeds up to 25 knots.
In 1996, Maersk’s own Odense Lindo yard in Denmark built a series of six “K”-class ships with similar dimensions.
