MARAD APPROVES SCRAPPING, FLAG TRANSFER OF TWO TANKERS
The U.S. Maritime Administration has approved the sale of a tanker for scrapping and the sale and flag transfer of a tank ship.
Star Intech, based in Centreville, Va., will sell the 17,320-gross-ton tanker 'Leader' to PVR Shipbreaking Co. for scrapping in India. The vessel was built at Sparrows Point, Md., in 1969.
SeaRiver Maritime will sell the 12,769-gross-ton tank ship 'S/R Galveston' to Unicorp Ltd., a Liberian corporation, and transfer the vessel to the Honduran flag registry. The vessel was built in Port Authur, Texas, in 1970.
MarAd must approve the scrapping and transfer of U.S.-flag vessels under section 9 of the 1916 Shipping Act.
