MarAd approves transfer of 6 U.S.-flag barges
The U.S. Maritime Administration has approved the transfer of six U.S.-flag barges to overseas firms and their respective flag registries.
MarAd approved three transfer requests from Petroleum Transport Corp. of New Canaan, Conn. The company will sell the 5,285-gross-ton tank barge “Pennsylvania” to Imperial Destiny Shipping in Panama for transfer to the Panamanian registry. Petroleum Transport will transfer its 7,244-gross-ton tank barge “Florida” to Golden Amphora Marine, and its 12,752-gross-ton tank barge “New York” to Mystic Ocean Shipmanagement, both of Panama for operations under the Panamanian registry.
America’s Best in New Orleans received approval from MarAd to sell the 1,837-gross-ton deck barge “Santo Domingo” to Industrial Transport Ltd. in Trinidad for transfer to the Trinidad registry.
MarAd also approved the application of Vessel Management Services in Seattle to sell the 9,037-gross-ton cargo barge “CMC 450-12” to Marine Carrier AB, a Swedish corporation, and transfer the vessel to Swedish registry.
In addition, Cleveland Tankers (1991) in Cleveland received approval to sell the 5,833-gross-ton tanker “Gemini” to Algoma Tankers Ltd., a Canadian corporation, and transfer of the vessel to the Canadian registry.
MarAd must approve all U.S.-flag vessel transfer under section 9 of the 1916 Shipping Act.
