MarAd approves vessel re-flag and scrapping

The U.S. Maritime Administration has approved an application from General Metals of Tacoma, Wash., to sell the 4,562-gross-ton U.S.-flag barge “Twin Harbor II” to B.J. Marine Holdings in Canada for scrapping in China.

The “Twin Harbor II” was built in Baltimore in 1943.

The agency also approved New Orleans-based Tri-Millenium Shipping’s application to sell the 2,576-gross-ton U.S.-flag barge “Tidelands 016” to McKeil Work Boats Ltd. in Canada for transfer to the Canadian flag registry. The barge was built in Gretna, La. in 1977.

Under section 9 of the 1916 Shipping Act, MarAd must approve U.S.-flag vessel transfers and overseas scrappings.
