MarAd approves vessel scrapping, two barge flag transfers
The U.S. Maritime Administration has approved Palm Coast, Fla.-based Eastern Overseas’ sale of the 120,820-gross-ton tanker “Overseas Boston” to Maritime Delivery of the British Virgin Islands for scrapping in China.
The tanker was built in Hiroshima, Japan, in 1974.
The agency approved Des Allemands, La.-based Otto Candies’ sale of the 2,198-gross-ton deck barge “OC 257” to Mariner’s Haven Ltd., a Trinidad & Tobago company, for transfer to the Trinidad & Tobago flag registry. The barge was built at Houma, La. in 1979.
MarAd also approved Vessel Management Services’ sale of the 5,051-gross-ton freight barge “Malolo” to Amix Salvage & Sales of Canada for transfer to the Canadian flag registry. The barge was built in San Francisco in 1968.
Under section 9 of the 1916 Shipping Act, MarAd must approve the sale, scrapping and flag transfer of all U.S.-flag vessels.
