MarAd awards 4 shippers for their use of U.S.-flag vessels
The U.S. Maritime Administration has awarded four shippers for their use of U.S.-flag cargo ships.
MarAd said the companies — Carrier Corp., Farmington, Conn.; Lowe’s Cos., Mooresville, N.C.; Perini Corp., Framington, Mass.; and Yowell International, Melbourne, Fla. — voluntarily transported significant portions of their cargo on U.S.-flag ships. The awards were presented as part of National Maritime Day, which is officially observed on May 22.
“We know it takes an extra degree of planning for busy companies to ship their goods on U.S.-flag vessels,” said Acting Maritime Administrator John Jamian in a statement. “But we need the support of our American companies if the U.S. Merchant Marine is to continue to prosper.”
