MarAd extends MSP interim final rule comment period
The U.S. Maritime Administration has extended the comment period for its recently published interim final rule for carrier participation in the reauthorized Maritime Security Program to Aug. 30.
The original comment period on the rulemaking, published in the Federal Register July 20, was scheduled to close Aug. 19.
The 2003 Maritime Security Act authorized the creation of a new MSP program to ensure that the American military has immediate access to a fleet of militarily useful commercial U.S.-flag vessels during times of war or national emergency. The new MSP will include 60 ships.
