MARAD LIBERALIZES WAIVERS FOR EXIMBANK CARGO

The U.S. Maritime Administration has expanded the period for waivers from U.S.-flag shipping requirements for Public Resolution 17 cargoes generated by the Export-Import Bank of the United States.

The waiver period was extended from six months to two years, and applies only in cases where U.S.-flag ships are unavailable to move Eximbank-generated cargoes.

If a U.S.-flag vessel which can accommodate the cargo in question becomes available during the waiver period, the conditional two-year maximum waiver will be withdrawn.

MarAd plans to establish a Web site containing general waiver information. The Web site will be limited to bona fide carriers, shippers, and applicants applying for Eximbank waivers.
