MarAd sheds three more ships from James River fleet
The U.S. Maritime Administration announced contracts to remove and dispose of three more vessels from the James River Reserve Fleet.
Since June 1, MarAd has announced disposal contracts for seven ships from the James River and a total of 10 for its fleets nationwide. The departure of all the ships now under contract will bring to 47 the number of ships that have left the agency’s fleets since January 2001.
Under terms of the three contracts announced Sept. 1, Bay Bridge Enterprises will receive $335,000 to dismantle the “Marshfield Victory,” a World War II Victory ship, and $107,640 to break up the “Preserver,” a salvage vessel built in 1944. International Shipbreaking Ltd. will dismantle the 1946-built oiler “Waccamaw” for $496,319.
