MARAD TO ASK FOR EXTENSION OF INFORMATION COLLECTION

The U.S. Maritime Administration said on Tuesday it intends to request approval for a three-year extension of approved information collection.

MarAd's “Request for Transfer of Ownership, Registry, and Flag, or Charter, Lease, or Mortgage of U.S. Citizen-Owned Documented Vessels' enables the agency to approve the sale, transfer, charter, lease or mortgage of U.S. documented vessels to non-citizens, to transfer such vessels to a foreign registry and flag, or to allow the transfer of foreign-flag vessel by their owners under various contractual requirements, a MarAd spokesperson said.

“Respondents of this collection are vessel owners who have applied for foreign transfer of U.S.-flag vessels,” MarAd said in a statement.

Written comments, referring to Docket No. MarAd 2003-14680 must be submitted by 5 p.m. on May 13, 2003, to the Docket Clerk, U.S. DOT Dockets, Room PL-401, Department of Transportation, 400 7th Street NW, Washington, D.C., 20590.
