MarAd to post inland waterway information on Web
The U.S. Maritime Administration will make inland waterway research information available to the public on the Internet.
“In this way, we hope to make it easier for researchers to search a central location to see what is being said, written, examined and debated regarding the national waterway system,” said Maritime Administrator William G. Schubert to the Washington Propeller Club June 26.
“After the introduction of the Web site, we hope to continue servicing this research tool by including other historic waterway documents that are not electronically available through a system where documents produced before the electronic age can be scanned in and read as online documents,” Schubert said.
Schubert said the request for the research tool came from the industry itself during a meeting last year. “The common sense conclusion that this is one of the services that the government can provide to its constituents without onerous cost or oversight,” he said.
