MARAD WANTS TO EXTEND VESSEL-REPORTING REQUIREMENT FOR AGRICULTURE CARGO

The U.S. Maritime Commission has sent a request for approval to the White House Office of Management and Budget for a three-year extension to collect information related to rate levels for U.S.-flag vessels that transport agricultural cargoes.

Currently, U.S.-flag vessel operators must submit vessel-operating costs and capital costs data to MarAd on an annual basis. MarAd uses this information to establish “fair and reasonable” guideline rates for carriage of specific cargoes on U.S.-flag ships.

MarAd requested comments from the shipping industry in a Nov. 5 Federal Register notice. No comments were received, the agency said.
