Marseilles-Fos to boost Brazil trade links

Marseilles-Fos to boost Brazil trade links

The Port of Marseilles-Fos said it would establish a permanent representative in Brazil to enhance growing ties with its main trading partner in South America.

The French port handles about 4.5 million metric tons of goods from Brazil each year.

The announcement follows a three-day trade mission by new development director Dirk Becquart and his staff to attend the Sao Paulo Intermodal trade show.

Marseilles-Fos, the fourth-largest European port in terms of tonnage, is promoting itself as an alternative gateway due to its multimodal links to northern Europe and lower costs.

The port is developing three container terminals and a logistics park. Port officials also stressed their facility has extensive production and storage capacity for Brazilian biofuels.

Marseilles-Fos has a sister port arrangement with Santos, Brazil.
