MATSON ADDS SEVENTH VESSEL TO HAWAII SERVICE

MAERSK SEALAND, P&O NEDLLOYD, FMC SETTLE 3-YEAR DISPUTE

Matson Navigation Co. said it will add a seventh vessel to its six-ship Hawaii Service fleet, increasing the number of annual round-trip voyages to 182 from 156, effective May 14.

The new vessel, which has roughly 2,000 TEUs of capacity, will expand the service's container-carrying capacity by about 17 percent.

Under the new schedule Matson will offer seven arrivals from the West Coast every 14 days. From Oakland, the schedule provides direct sailings every Wednesday and Friday. Sailings from Los Angeles to Honolulu are every Saturday and every other Wednesday. The alternate Wednesday sailing will include an Oakland call prior to Honolulu. From the Pacific Northwest, Matson will continue to offer a weekly Sunday departure.

The new schedule also provides additional capacity for all three West Coast ports, Matson said.
