MAYAN OCEAN LINES STARTS MOBILE/YUCATAN PENINSULA SERVICE

Mayan Ocean Lines has selected Alabama State Docks' Port of Mobile for the U.S. port call on its weekly fixed-day liner service to Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

The service employs a multipurpose container vessel, the Baltimar Notos, geared up to 100 metric tons. The service calls Progresso, Yucatan, and Seybaplaya, Campeche.

The state docks serve Mayan Ocean Lines out of Berth 5, which is being converted to a container pier. A new harbor crane is scheduled for delivery in June from Gottwald, a German company. The berth is being reinforced to handle the new crane. A second wheel-based crane will also serve the berth.

Strachan Shipping Agency of Mobile has been appointed as agent.

Mayan Ocean Line is based in Campeche and Merida, Mexico.
