McLane gears up for new Pa. distribution center
The McLane Co. is set to begin construction in Scranton, Pa. on a 400,000-square-foot grocery distribution center, a facility that will ultimately lead to 500 new jobs in area.
The Temple, Texas-based distribution giant expects to occupy the $60 million facility by June 2008, with all 500 new positions filled within three years.
The facility will provide grocery distribution services for convenience store chains, mass merchandisers and drug stores in the mid-Atlantic region. The new facility will give McLane 20 grocery division distribution centers in 18 states.
The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce worked with state officials to help the company secure a $525,000 funding package offer that includes a grant of up to $300,000 and up to $225,000 in customized job training funds.
