MEBA unveils new bridge simulator for deck officer training
The Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association has completed construction of a set of bridge simulators for deck officer training at its Calhoon MEBA Engineering School in Easton, Md.
MEBA said students can simultaneously control simulated vessels at 10 bridge stations, playing out scenarios for as many as 56 different vessel types in more than 20 different ports. In addition to the 10 ships that can be controlled within one scenario, instructors can “further intensify the simulation by implanting, multiple computer-controlled ships into the scenario,” the union said.
Mastered by electronic and charting navigation systems developer Transas USA, the simulator accommodates upgrades to adapt to ever-changing Coast Guard and International Maritime Organization training and testing requirements, MEBA said.
