MED/FAR EAST CONFERENCE REINSTATES BUNKER CHARGE
The Mediterranean Far East Conference said that it will
reinstate a bunker adjustment factor on Nov. 15.
Bunker prices have doubled since February and have reached their
highest levels since the Gulf War crisis of 1991, the conference said.
The bunker adjustment factor charged by conference carriers will be $37
per TEU both eastbound and westbound, based on bunker prices on Oct. 1.
The conference said that the level of the charge will be kept under
review. The level of the Mediterranean Far East Conference’s bunker charge and its date of
implementation are the same as those announced on Monday by the Far Eastern Freight
Conference, which covers the Asia/northern Europe trade.
Mediterranean Far East Conference carriers are CMA CGM, DSR-Senator,
"K" Line, Maersk, Malaysia International Shipping Corp., Mitsui O.S.K. Lines,
NYK, P&O Nedlloyd, Sea-Land Service and Yangming.
