Medical device firm to build Shasta Lake distribution center

Dialysis care provider Fresenius Medical Care North America said this week it plans to open a $6 million 70,000-square-foot distribution center — its second in California — in the city of Shasta Lake in September.

Fresenius Medical Care North America is the Lexington, Mass.-based subsidiary of Fresenius Medical Care AG & Co. of Bad Homburg, Germany, the world’s largest provider of dialysis products, including hemodialysis machines, dialyzers and related products. The parent Fresenius, with $2.3-billion in annual revenue, employs more than 56,000 workers worldwide at a network of nearly 2,200 dialysis clinics.

Columbus, Ohio-based Spartan Logistics will develop and lease the building to Fresenius NA. Financial terms of the 20-year lease were not disclosed.

The facility, set to employee 40 people, will be used to distribute products to hospitals and clinics in the California, Oregon and Washington area. Fresenius operates a similar Spartan-built facility just north of San Bernardino, in Apple Valley.
