Menzies Aviation (Australia) to buy Australian Air Support
Menzies Aviation (Australia) Pty Ltd., a subsidiary of the United Kingdom’s Menzies Aviation, has agreed terms to buy ground handling company Australian Air Support Pty Ltd. No financial details were disclosed.
Australian Air Support operates at Sydney and Brisbane airports and employs more than 100 staff, handling Freedom Air, Pacific Blue, Alliance Airlines, Big Sky and AeroPelican. Since October 2004, they have also handled Emirates Airlines, on behalf of Menzies, through a subcontracting agreement.
“The acquisition sits well with Menzies’ culture and will enhance the services and facilities, which will be available to our customer network in Australia. There is also a strategic fit which takes us into a new location in Sydney’s domestic terminal,” said Alistair Reid, director of Menzies Aviation (Australia).
Air Support’s general manager Doug Brooke, will leave the company while Jamie Day, Menzies’ ground services manager at Brisbane airport, will be responsible for the integration of the business into the Menzies group.
The transaction is expected to be completed early April.
Earlier this month Menzies agreed to purchase San Francisco-based airport handling company Aeroground Inc.
