MENZIES TO OPEN ON-AIRPORT CARGO FACILITY IN SYDNEY
Menzies Aviation Group is preparing to open an on-airport cargo handling facility at Sydney’s Kingsford Smith Airport.
After negotiations with Sydney Airports Corp. and the administrator of Ansett Airlines, MAG has reached an agreement to acquire the lease of the former Ansett domestic freight terminal.
Menzies World Cargo has been operating in Australia since 1988 when it opened an 11,000 square meter airside facility at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport. In Sydney, the company established a small off-airport presence to provide cargo handling on behalf of Australian Airlines, Asiana, Air Calin, and Cargolux. The existing Menzies World Cargo operation in Sydney will move into the Ansett facility in August.
“This is the breakthrough we have been waiting for in Sydney,” said Peter Smith, chief executive of Menzies Aviation Group. “It enables us to move onto the next stage of our long-term development plans for Menzies in Australia.”
Menzies Aviation Group has more than 80 locations in over 20 countries with a staff of 8,000 employees.
