MICROCHIP IMPLANTS PROPOSED FOR TRAVELING PET BIRDS

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has proposed to allow the use of microchip implants as a way to identify pet birds from the United States returning from travel abroad.

The current regulations allow the use of leg bands or tattoos to identify these birds.

The agency said it would take comments about the microchip implants for returning pet birds through March 12.
