MITSUI O.S.K. LINES RENAMES CONTAINERSHIPS
Japanese shipping group Mitsui O.S.K. Lines said that it will rename its containerships and adopt the prefix “MOL” for vessel names.
Containerships currently in service will have the word “MOL” added to the beginning of their name. In the transpacific trade, where Mitsui O.S.K. Lines ships have used the prefix “Alligator,” the prefix will be replaced by “MOL.”
Of existing containerships, the first renamed ship was the MOL Thames, formerly the Thames, which transferred from the Asia-Europe to Asia-U.S. East Coast-Europe pendulum service.
