MSC APPOINTS PONTIFF DIRECTOR OF SAFETY AND SECURITY
Mediterranean Shipping Co. has promoted Captain Marvin J. Pontiff to the new position of director, safety and security. Previously, he served as manager of safety and compliance at MSC.
Pontiff retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in July 1999 after serving 24 years in the Marine Safety Program, and most recently held the position of chief, office of compliance at USCG headquarters in Washington,
In addition to his safety duties, Pontiff will be responsible for security on MSC vessels calling at U.S. ports. He will also serve as company security officer for MSC (USA) as that position is currently being developed and defined by the International Maritime Organization.
MSC recently enrolled in the ocean carrier portion of U.S. Customs’ Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism program commenced earlier this year and has submitted its “Security Profile” or summary of company security procedures to Customs for review in accordance with the C-TPAT agreement.
