MSC CONTAINERSHIPS TO BE LARGEST ON EAST COAST OF SOUTH AMERICA
Vessels of 4,500-TEU capacity to be deployed in a new Mediterranean Shipping Co. container service between South America and the Mediterranean will be the largest to call at ports on the East Coast of South America.
MSC, which already runs East Coast of South America services to and from the United States and north Europe, will launch an East Coast of South America/Mediterranean loop on Jan. 10. The service will employ six vessels with capacities averaging 4,500 TEUs
Until now, the largest container vessels to call at ports on the East Coast of South America have been 3,700-TEU ships operated by Hamburg Sud as part of its U.S. East Coast/East Coast of South America service.
The port rotation of the new Mediterranean Shipping Co. service will be La Spezia, Genoa, Fos, Barcelona, Valencia, Las Palmas, Rio de Janeiro, Santos, Buenos Aires, Paranagua, Itajai, Rio de Janeiro, Vitoria, Las Palmas and Lisbon.
