MSC to raise U.S. export rates

   Mediterranean Shipping Co. said Tuesday it will raise rates on North American exports to both Asia and Europe, effective March 1.

   The ocean carrier will hike westbound transpacific rates on dry shipments $100 per 20-foot container and $150 per 40-foot container on port-to-port shipments from the U.S. West, East and Gulf coasts, and $150 per 20-foot container and $200 per 40-foot container on intermodal shipments through any U.S. ports. For reefer cargo, the rates will rise $185 per 20-foot container and $250 per 40-foot container for all intermodal or port-to-port shipments.

   For North American export cargo to Europe, rates will rise $200 per 20-foot container and $350 per 40-foot container from Canada to all European ports. From U.S. and Mexican ports to all European ports, rates will increase $150 per 20-foot container and $250 per 40-foot container.
