MTMC CENTRALIZES PERSONAL PROPERTY MOVING OPERATIONS
In a further effort to streamline its logistics operations, the U.S. Military Traffic Management Command has centralized its personal property operations.
Personal property offices of the military’s ocean and overland logistics unit at Stuttgart, Germany and Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii, will report directly to MTMC headquarters in Alexandria, Va. Col. Nonie Cabana, deputy chief of staff for passenger and personal property at MTMC will oversee the operation.
“We feel this change will result in faster and simpler reporting of personal property actions,” said Hank Spieler, MTMC’s transition coordinator.
The 598th Personal Property Division will now be called MTMC Personal Property Office — Europe. The 599th Personal Property Division will be renamed MTMC Personal Property Office — Pacific.
“The offices will continue to support installation personal property shipping offices, embassies and oversee and assist in theater household goods contingency movements,” Spieler said.
The military’s Oahu Vehicle Processing Center in Hawaii and similar operations will also report directly to MTMC headquarters.
“This is all about reducing layering,” Spieler said. “This is a method that will work a lot faster and ultimately benefits the service members.”
Alexandria-based Household Goods Forwarders Association of America, which works closely with the military on personal property moves, praised the move by MTMC.
“The people are still geographically in place,” said Terry Head, president of the association. “The changes can only help to improve the communication process, which is important to the moving industry.”
