MTMC FOOD SHIPMENTS ON THE MOVE AGAIN IN EUROPE
After a 72-hour embargo in the Port of Rotterdam, the U.S. Military Traffic Management Command’s 52 containers of refrigerated meat are headed for their destinations in Germany.
Dutch Customs held the containers after they were off-loaded from the Sealand Performance on March 21, the same day that several cases of foot-and-mouth disease were discovered in livestock in the Netherlands.
“Thanks to the smooth coordination with our Maersk Sealand ocean carrier contractor, we were able to keep the delay of food to a minimum,” said Col. John Brown, commander of the U.S. Army’s 598th Transportation Group in Europe.
MTMC, the ocean and overland transportation logistics unit for the U.S. Defense Department, is the prime shipping agent of perishable and nonperishable goods to military commissaries and post exchanges throughout Europe. The hub for those movements is Rotterdam.
