Navis updates NIT League on truck appointment system

Erik Tiemroth, executive vice president and co-founder of Oakland-based terminal software company Navis Corp., told a committee of the National Industrial Transportation League that stakeholders should brace for mandatory truck appointment systems as terminals handle more and more containers.

Tiemroth, who updated the NIT League on Navis' pilot project for integrating truck appointments into terminal operating systems, said that appointments today are scheduled through Web sites and, less frequently, call centers.

'As these systems become required, and as volume becomes bigger, there's going to be a need to integrate the trucking dispatch system with the terminals,' he said.
