NEPAL BOUND CARGO IS HIT BY DELAYS
Conflo Lines warned that changes in border-crossing policing related to recent political up heavals in Nepal, are causing transport delays in shipments to the land-locked country. The non-vessel-operating common carrier said that it is temporarily keeping Nepal-bound goods in a special transit area in Calcutta, India.
“Due to the recent tumultuous events caused by the killing of the royal family of Nepal, all overland traffic from and to this land-locked country has slowed down considerably,” Conflo said in a statement.
The company said that imported goods would remain in the port of Calcutta until the situation in Nepal has normalized.
According to the company’s agents in Nepal, security forces of the armed services have taken control of all border crossings to prevent any foreign intervention by its neighbors.
Conflo also warned its customers of extra charges caused by delays and problems in the area. “Since this measure has delayed processing at the borders, transport companies are now assessing corresponding surcharges.” It said.
