NEW CHAIRMEN APPOINTED TO HOUSE TRANSPORTATION SUBCOMMITTEES
House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee chairman Don Young, R-Alaska, has announced new subcommittee chairmen for the 107th Congress, including the appointment of Rep. Frank LoBiondo, R- N.J. as chairman of the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation subcommittee.
Young also announced the re-establishment of a separate subcommittee on railroads, which, in the last Congress, was combined with highway and mass transit programs. Rep. Jack Quinn, R-N.Y. is the new chairman of that subcommittee.
In another development, Young eliminated the subcommittee on oversight, investigations and emergency management. This was done to accommodate the re-establishment of the subcommittee on railroads, Young said. The full House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will take over the responsibilities of oversight and investigations.
Other new subcommittee chairmen include: Rep. Tom Petri, R-Wis., highways and transit; Rep. John Duncan, R-Tenn., water resources and environment; Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., aviation; and Rep. Steven La Tourette, R-Ohio, Economic Development, public buildings and emergency management.
