NEW WORLD ALLIANCE ADDS CAPACITY TO PACIFIC SERVICES
New World Alliance carriers APL, Hyundai Merchant Marine and MOL have introduced six containerships of more than 5,000-TEU capacity in their PSW and SAX transpacific services, replacing smaller vessels.
In the PSW loop, Hyundai has phased in three new 6,372-TEU vessels since April — the “Hyundai National,” “Hyundai Dominion” and “Hyundai Patriot” — replacing three ships of about 5,600-TEU capacity.
The PSW service, which now employs five 6,372-TEU vessels, has a rotation of Yantian, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Busan, Long Beach, Oakland, Tacoma, Busan, Kwangyang and Yantian.
In the SAX service, APL has recently replaced three ships of about 4,300-TEU capacity by larger units of 5,000 to 5,500 TEUs — the “APL Agate,” “APL Pearl” and “APL England.” Another new 5,500-TEU vessel, the “APL Scotland,” will be phased into the service in July.
The SAX service has a revised capacity of 5,164 TEUs a week, up from 4,514 TEUs in April, according to ComPairData, the global liner shipping database on the Internet.
The SAX service has a rotation of Los Angeles, Oakland, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Laem Chabang, Singapore, Los Angeles and Oakland.
The New World Alliance carriers, the largest group in the trade, measured in vessel capacity, also recently started taking space on the transpacific services operated by Evergreen Line.
