New World Alliance drops seasonal Pacific loop
New World Alliance carriers APL, Hyundai Merchant Marine and MOL are suspending their weekly transpacific “PSV” service until June next year.
The “PSV” service started at the beginning of the summer peak season. Hyundai said that no service will be
offered as of Nov. 15., when “MOL Expeditor” arrives in Chiwan, until June 2004.
The “PSV” service had a port rotation of Chiwan, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Los Angeles, Chiwan, Hong Kong and Kaohsiung. It used four 4,646-TEU ships operated by MOL.
The loss of the service will see a drop equivalent to about 240,000 TEUs in annual one-way capacity in the transpacific trade.
The Grand Alliance has also recently stopped one of its seasonal transpacific services, called the “ECX2.”
