NOAA, DOT IMPROVE VESSEL SAFETY THROUGH WEATHER DATA EXCHANGE
The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Transportation Department will jointly release a report Friday that lays the groundwork for improved weather monitoring for vessel transportation.
The Weather Information for Surface Transportation (WIST) National Assessment Report provides “a framework for improved exchange of weather information … to increase personal safety and economic efficiency in all surface transportation activities,” NOAA said.
“The WIST report states that if capacity-reducing weather variations can be better anticipated and communicated, and more precise mitigation measures can be implemented, overall system efficiency can be improved while operating costs and the number of deaths and injuries can be reduced,” NOAA said.
