NORFOLK SOUTHERN FORMS JOINT INTERMODAL SERVICES WITH UP, CP

Norfolk Southern Railway Co. has entered into agreements for joint intermodal container service with Union Pacific Railroad and Canadian Pacific Railway.

UP and NS will offer intermodal container services from Los Angeles to Atlanta. This seamless, double-stack container service will be handled by UP between Los Angeles and Memphis and by NS between Memphis and Atlanta.

The new service, Blue Streak, will be broken down into three levels; standard service for price sensitive customers, premium offers priority train space and container tracking, and SuperFlyer will offer “on-time-or-free” service.

CP and NS will launch joint intermodal service between the Port of New York/New Jersey and Eastern Canada that slices one-third off the standard rail transit time. Initially, it will operate three days a week in each direction with departures on from the port on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Both service agreements become effective Oct. 1.
