NORFOLK SOUTHERN OPENS CHICAGO BULK TRANSFER TERMINAL
Norfolk Southern Railway Co. has opened a new bulk transfer terminal operation in Chicago, which will be operated by Bulkmatic Transport Co.
Norfolk Southern has 23 Thoroughbred Bulk Transfer terminals in 14 states, including 14 other terminals operated by Bulkmatic.
The terminal which has 60 car spots with room to expand, handles the transfer of bulk products — from plastic pellets to food-grade products — from one mode of transportation to another. NS's bulk transfer terminals 'permits off-rail shippers and receivers of varied commodities to combine rail's long-haul efficiencies with truck's convenient door-to-door delivery,' the company said.
Transfer of product can be done by air, pump or machine, depending on shippers' requirements, Bulkmatic said.
