North Carolina ports shut down for Hurricane Ophelia

With Hurricane Ophelia approaching the region, the North Carolina State Ports Authority shut down its two ports late Tuesday and does not plan to reopen them until Thursday morning — conditions permitting.

Ports at both Wilmington and Morehead City have been closed to traffic by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Hurricane Ophelia, with winds of 75 miles per hours Wednesday morning, is expected to make landfall on the southeast Atlantic Coast sometime today. Parts of northern South Carolina and North Carolina have been evacuated in preparation.
