North Carolina ports to charge container inspection fee
The ports of Wilmington and Morehead City, N.C., will begin charging carriers a new container inspection security fee next month.
From Feb. 5, a “Customs Facilitation Fee” of $150 will be charged per container selected by U.S. Customs and Border Protection for inspection. The fee will cover removal of the container from stack, movement to designated inspection site and replacement to stack. The charge will apply to all on-port inspections conducted by Customs which require the container to be moved, North Carolina State Ports said in a statement.
