NORTHWEST RAISES FUEL SURCHARGE FOR DOMESTIC, INTERNATIONAL FREIGHT
Northwest Airlines Cargo said it will increase its fuel surcharge on all shipments by 15 cents per kilogram effective March 1, except in countries pending government approval.
The Minneapolis-based airline said rapidly escalating cost of jet fuel required the surcharge to defray costs. Oil prices have shot up the past two months due to concerns a Middle East war could disrupt supplies and political strife in Venezuela that halted production and caused some shortages.
'We will continue to watch the price of fuel in key spot markets to determine appropriate adjustments going forward. Those adjustments could be further increases or decreases,' Richard Sells, vice president global sales, said in a statement.
