NYK ADDS CARGO MANIFEST AMENDMENT FEE
NYK Line will charge shippers of U.S.-bound cargoes a manifest amendment fee of $40 per correction, effective May 15.
The “correction fee” will apply when customers require NYK to resubmit a cargo declaration previously transmitted to the U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection “due to an error, an omission, or a change” in the original shipping instructions data, NYK said in a circular to its customers.
The charge will not apply if the shipper (or intermediary) sends a cargo declaration directly to the U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection.
Following the introduction of the prior manifest transmission rule on Feb. 2, ocean carriers reported receiving numerous cargo declaration amendments from shippers, a development that carriers regarded as troublesome.
