NYK adopts searchlights to deter pirates, terrorists
NYK Line has introduced high illumination searchlights for its commercial vessels to help protect them from pirates and acts of terrorism.
NYK said the “Jacklight” searchlights work effectively to irradiate and clearly identify suspicious unlit boats at a distance of up to 500 meters (1,640 feet). The first light was loaded on the 102,390-ton “Banshu-maru” liquefied natural gas carrier March 26.
Commercial vessels have used daylight signaling lights and/or cargo lights (mercury lamps).
