NYK conducts joint antiterrorism drill with Hong Kong police
Nippon Yusen Kaisha conducted a joint antiterrorism exercise May 19 with the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) based on a scenario in which NYK’s bulk carrier “Suma” had been taken over by a terrorist group.
The exercise scenario called for the Special Duties Unit of the HKPF to dispatch high-speed boats, helicopters and divers to the vessel, and to search for, find and subdue the “terrorists.”
Employees at NYK’s head office in Tokyo, NYK Line Hong Kong, and NYK Shipmanagement in Singapore also participated in the exercise.
This was the second joint exercise that NYK has conducted with the HKPF over the past year.
“NYK will continue to participate in joint exercises with the competent authorities of various countries in order to prepare for and prevent against not only marine terrorism but also other conceivable emergencies as well,” NYK said.
