NYK GETS CHARTER CONTRACTS FOR SPECIALIZED SHIPS
NYK Line has signed two time-charter contracts for the carriage of ammonia and liquid coal tar that involve the construction of two specialized vessels.
One of the new vessels will be a 35,000-cubic-meter ammonia carrier, and the other a 7,500-deadweight liquid coal tar pitch carrier.
Both of these contracts involve newly developed business fields for NYK Line, the company said.
NYK has signed a time-charter contract with Mitsubishi Corp. for the carriage of ammonia. The ammonia carrier is expected to be delivered in January 2004 at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries shipyard. The vessel will carry ammonia from Bontang in Indonesia, where Mitsubishi has launched new ammonia plants, to Southeast Asia.
NYK’s wholly-own subsidiary, NYK Bulkship (Europe), Ltd. has entered into a 10-year time-charter contract with BHP Billiton Raw Materials BV, which will utilize a newly built pitch vessel for the transport of liquid coal tar pitch to its Mozambique MOZAL project. The liquid coal tar pitch vessel will be built at a shipyard in Japan and is expected to be delivered in April 2003.
