NYK (Singapore) picks e-commerce procurement system
NYK Ship Management (Singapore) has signed an agreement to use an e-commerce procurement system provided by Copenhagen-based ShipServ to automate purchasing.
ShipServ, founded in 1999, said its Web-based trading platform, TradeNet, will allow all of the ship management company’s procurement transactions to flow through to suppliers electronically, thereby eliminating manual tasks.
ShipServ said it saw a 77-percent growth in trading volume in 2004. Nearly 3,000 suppliers and 30 shipping companies, managing a fleet of nearly 1,000 vessels, are doing 400,000 transactions annually, the IT company said.
“I believe that 2004 was a watershed year for e-commerce, and after many years of doubts the progressive and innovative ship managers are realizing the value and long-term benefits of e-commerce to simplify and be more cost-effective and cost-efficient in their procurement tasks,” said Paul Ostergaard, chief executive officer of ShipServ.
