OECD SEEKS ADDITIONAL INPUT ON CARRIERS? ANTITRUST IMMUNITY

OECD SEEKS ADDITIONAL INPUT ON CARRIERSÆ ANTITRUST IMMUNITY

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development has decided to keep a debate over the need for ocean carriers’ antitrust immunity an alive issue for 2001.

In a letter to shippers, carriers and other interested parties, the OECD asked for additional information on the issue by the end of February.

The information was requested to prepare for a second workshop on carriers' antitrust immunity, to be held in the fall. The OECD held its first workshop on the subject last May.

The OECD asked for comments on the positive and negative impacts of antitrust immunity, and possible effects on international trade, if antitrust immunity were eliminated.
