Oman port joins CSI roster

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers are now on the ground helping their counterparts in Oman identify outbound cargo shipments from the Port of Salalah for inspection, the agency announced.

There are now 43 ports around the world that are part of the Container Security Initiative, a program developed after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks to extend the borders by stationing Customs officers overseas and working with host nations to inspect cargo headed to the United States.

Oman joins the United Arab Emirates as Arab Gulf nations that participate in the U.S. cargo security program.
