ONLINE BULK SHIPPER TEAMS WITH UNISYS, G-LOG
Internet Shipping Group, a New Jersey-based logistics application services provider, has teamed with information technology giant Unisys and logistics software developer Global Logistics Technologies Inc. to build and market a suite of software for managing international bulk shipping.
ISG will offer a comprehensive vetting, chartering and tracking system powered by G-Log, which is active in the chemical logistics industry through its ownership relationship with ShipChem.com. ISG also will include some software modules designed by Unisys’ freight unit being used by the U.S. military, among others.
The core product will be available to cargo interests, ship owners, brokers and agents in early 2001. Future versions will include applications to support financial products such as futures and derivatives.
The three companies signed a memorandum of understanding that calls for Unisys to integrate ISGs proprietary software for maritime supply chains, including ship chartering and vessel tracking, into G-Log’s transaction-based system customized for the bulk marketplace. Worldwide sales activities will be handled jointly by ISG and Unisys.
ISG will compete directly with Optimum Logistics, the established front-runner in online bulk shipping software.
