OOCL Logistics transfers management from U.S. to Hong Kong

OOCL Logistics, the logistics management division of OOCL, is relocating its headquarters from California to Hong Kong and appointing a Hong Kong-based chief executive officer.

Allan T.S. Wong, a member of executive committee of OOCL, will be appointed CEO of the logistics affiliate, effective June 1. John Firman will step down as CEO and become vice chairman of OOCL Logistics.

OOCL said the reorganization would support OOCL Logistics’ expansion and create greater synergies with the liner arm of the group.

The closer integration of the logistics and liner-shipping activities of OOCL follows similar organizational changes at APL and A.P. Moller-Maersk.

OOCL Logistics will be structured into three business units: international logistics, China logistics and e-business.

The international logistics unit will focus on serving customers with global sourcing and supply-chain management needs, providing end-to-end international logistics services.

The China logistics unit will continue to develop transportation, warehousing and distribution services in China to serve both domestic and international customers.

The newly created e-business unit will provide what OOCL called “next-generation supply chain applications and e-solutions” for customers.
