“OOCL Montreal” makes maiden call

The OOCL Montreal, a new 4,100-TEU containership, has made its first call in Montreal as part of the St. Lawrence Coordinated Service operated jointly by OOCL and Canada Maritime.

The 294-meter-long, 55,994-gross-ton vessel is the largest containership to sail on the St. Lawrence, Michel Turgeon, a spokesman for the Montreal Port Authority, confirmed for Shippers’ News Wire.

Built for the river, the OOCL Montreal has a draft of 10.7 meters, the same as for 2,300-TEU vessels already in service.

After a two-day port call, the vessel sailed for Thamesport, in the U.K., Antwerp, and Le Havre.

Two sisterships, the Canmar Venture and Canmar Spirit, operated by Canada Maritime, a division of CP Ships, will arrive in Montreal in August and September.
