OOCL TO INTRODUCE CARGO MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Orient Overseas Container Line will introduce an Internet-based cargo management software system in September for shippers to handle containerized ocean shipments across the trade chain.
The CargoSmart system is designed to bring trade partners closer together by allowing them to share information on shipments.
OOCL said that the system will include comprehensive shipment details, automatic shipment and “milestone” notification, and bill of lading processing. It will allow users to define how and when shipment information is shared with trade partners such as consignees, forwarders, customs brokers and banks.
Users will be able to obtain customized exception management reports.
Additionally, the CargoSmart system will also allow users to check tariffs and terms, make rate inquiries, and track cargo movement.
OOCL said that it has set up CargoSmart as an independently operated company owned by the group. The system will initially be opened to customers using OOCL as a carrier, but it may later be used to manage shipments with multiple carriers.
